Combine them: make overhead extensions your main triceps isolation, run them (and curls) on an 8–12 add-weight-when-you-hit-12 rule, 2–3×/week, for 8–12 week blocks. That’s the highest-signal duo from this set of studies.

Circumference ≠ CSA. CSA/volume % gains can look larger than tape % because soft-tissue geometry isn’t linear. Prefer the same measurement method (flexed mid-arm, morning, no pump) when tracking yourself.

Takeaway for +2 in: total arm CSA rose ~15% in 12 weeks in recreational men — in the same ballpark as the % needed for +2 in on a mid-size arm, but CSA ≠ tape. Still one of the clearer “whole upper arm got substantially bigger” trials.
